Tom and I are complete opposites. Honestly, total opposites. He is tall, I am short. He loves Marvel and superheroes, I love history and rom-coms. I love reading, he really does not. Tom eats anything, I am a seriously fussy eater. He worries about nothing, I worry about everything. Tom hangs his clothes up in the wardrobe, my wardrobe is my bedroom floor! He lived in a busy noisy suburb of London and I lived in a small Fenland Town.
However, we have one thing in common. And it changed everything. We both have a love and follow Jesus Christ.
We both have our own stories of how we found Christ and how God blessed us in our separate lives. But God clearly had his hand on us and our relationship to let us meet and fall in love. All of the opposites above, and the fact that we were 100 miles apart, would put all the odds against us. But God knew. And he knew what a blessing we would be to each other.
Our God is a great God. He knows us inside and out. He knows what makes us strong, he knows what makes us weak. He knows his plans for us and we are so glad that he is in control. We could never have found each other, fallen in love and got married earlier this year without his guidance. God knew that opposites attract and that Tom and I would be perfect for each other.
As we prepared for marriage, God was with us and helped us. He continues to help us now. We have been happily married for 5 months and things are not always easy but God is our strength and refuge. ‘He will never leave us, nor forsake us’ Deuteronomy 31 v6. We have tough times ahead as well as many adventures to look forward to. We are excited to do this together but also with God’s amazing help, grace, wisdom and strength.
