John’s desire as he writes at the beginning of chapter 2 is to give Christians confidence. Confidence to walk like Jesus, confidence to walk in his shoes, to be like him and to do the things that he did. But that is a big ask when we think about what Jesus did. John helps us here to gain confidence through God’s actions, to take those first steps and walk like Jesus.
