Malcolm & Ruth Firth
Malcolm and Ruth Firth are missionaries who were sent out by the church to Latvia in 1996. They live and work in Riga, the capital of Latvia, seeking to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to the people in Latvia.
After sixteen years working with various churches, Malcolm and Ruth started a church-planting work in their own home which has now grown and developed into the Mežciems
International Baptist Church. The church is currently meeting in rented accommodation in the Mežciems area of Riga and have further plans afoot as to how to reach their community.
Malcolm continues his wider ministry of preaching and teaching in churches throughout Latvia, as well as lecturing at the Latvian Bible Centre in Riga.
They are also involved in a Latvian literature ministry, Lux Mundi, facilitating the translation of reformed literature into Latvian, developing a bi-lingual website (www.luxmundi.lv), and simplifying Christian classics. This is increasingly being used by churches and Latvian speakers outside of Latvia itself.
As well as the simplifying and translation work, Ruth is also involved in Global Aid Network (GAiN), a Christian humanitarian aid organisation which seeks to help people who are being seriously affected by the current economic difficulties facing Latvia by providing them with clothing and food.
Malcolm and Ruth have a son, Jonathan, who is a student at Aberystwyth University.
The church in Whittlesey, in conjunction with other churches, support Malcolm and Ruth in their work through an organisation called Grace Baptist Mission.
